The "Great Mail Race" Geography Project
Dear Families, September 24, 2013
We are beginning a very exciting project in Room 207! We are taking part in a nationwide project known as “The Great Mail Race.” We are writing to a minimum of one fourth grade class in each of the fifty states and we can't wait to hear back from them! This project integrates Language Arts, Social Studies, and Mathematics.
We will be drafting/publishing letters, studying regions across the country, and compiling data in graphs and charts. “The Great Mail Race” is directly linked to the curriculum and is a truly fun, interactive way to study and learn.
However, there are costs associated with this project. Our class will be collecting stamps. If you would like to support this project, please consider sending in a stamp or two or a bag of bottles/cans to be returned for money to buy stamps. The likelihood of receiving responses is greater with the more letters we send out across America. Therefore, the more stamps we collect the more letters we can send!
Ideally, we will receive at least one response from each state. We will compile data received from other schools. We will compare and contrast the information collected and create our own personal views of each of the “fifty nifty states.” Additionally, we will be using our textbooks and online resources to study each region of the States (climates, land forms, populations, etc.). We look forward to the excitement of receiving mail and tracking data!
Room 207 is extremely excited about this project! Feel free to check in on the progress with a note or phone call!
